There are a couple like this that I liked at first, but the more I look at them, the more they look like Jurassic Park creatures. There are lots of interesting details on the saddle; I like taking very close-up photos for my own interests, but they're probably a little too abstract for my specific goals of this little project.
Some of the old leather has interesting stamping/embossing. There's a neat logo of some sort on the back that might be cool to focus on as well. It's kind of plain, but it looks more like a saddle just by revealing the bottom. It's pretty interesting to see how little changes really alter a viewer's perception.
I think the stirrup is upside down. D'oh. Details.

Description: I was asked if I would provide a photo or two for an art auction that's benefitting horses through Animal Protection of New Mexico. I don't have much horse-related imagery, so I'm seeing if I can come up with something. My friend Krista was kind enough to loan me this cool old saddle, and I'm seeing if I can figure out how to get something interesting out of it. It's kind of tricky to figure out how much of it you need to show and still have it read as a saddle, and it's interesting to try to fit it into a picture-shaped box. And even when it reads like a saddle and not the Loch Ness Monster, it still needs to look 'right,' like it doesn't feel right when it's too close to the ground or something. I'm still thinking about it. Here's my first group of attempts, I'm not sure how I feel about them yet, but it's a good challenge...
