I didn't find out what this was. It was near some kind of corral so it could have been used for any number of things. (It was about 2 1/2 feet tall, that sounds pretty big for a cheese grater.) A lot of the boards and outdoor beams had been made with wood where beetles had bored under the bark, they look like Sanskrit writing or something. The marks are between 1/2" and 3/4" at the widest spots, so they're not tiny, but we've seen some other wood with smaller ant-sized designs.

Description: Rancho de las Golondrinas is very cool 300+ acre rancho from the early 1700s. (www.golondrinas.org) We only recently started going, you have to time your visit with a day they're open as it's all volunteer run and not open all the time. It was a beautiful fall afternoon, the trees are turning, the chamisa is bright yellow, apples on the trees.. They were pressing cider, stomping grapes, the kids got to make their own tortillas the old way, and there were horses all over the place. It's a special place.
