Happened before we ever lived here, but there was definitely a fire here at some point. Very wide angle lens. I could fix the barrel distortion in Photoshop if I felt like it I guess. Just a minute or two off the beaten path, we found some cool rocks to climb on.
You can't really tell, but she's got these ankle bracelets tied on that have little bells on them. She got them at the Spring Fair at her school on Friday. This was the only cactus we saw that was actually blooming, but in a couple weeks I'd bet there'll be a lot of stuff like this up there. Insert bad "lichen" joke.
This isn't as high up as it might look, although it wouldn't matter to her. I do keep her away from real dropoffs... IMG_0748
Sydney was standing on top of this in an earlier picture, you can see it's not as high as it seemed. A couple hundred feet the other way, there are similar looking rock formations but with real dropoffs; we stayed away from the edge there. I haven't visited Australia yet, but this lends credibility to the people who call this part of the country the American Outback.

Description: Took Sydney hiking yesterday, just her and me. It was a nice day and a pretty short trail, we took our time and looked at bugs and little pink rocks. She wanted to wear a skirt hiking, and she wore bells around her ankles that they'd given the kids at the Spring Fair on Friday.
