I have a website for my photography at www.timefly.net. I’ve done a couple of weddings and had photos used by the regional news and stuff like that. It’s something I enjoy and it’s something I work on.
I found a great plugin called Fotobook that’ll import my Facebook photo galleries, and since that’s where I’ve been posting stuff for friends and family, I use it to get up to date stuff for this site.
I’m thinking of doing the Flickr “pro” thing so I can post more photos there, but I should probably do the 480 things I already have on my to-do list first.

baby Say's Phoebes We've had phoebes nest above our bedroom since we first moved here; this year a second group nested on our front porch. They built that nest basically one morning maybe five weeks ago. The ones out back hatched last week, these guys must have hatched yesterday. They're really cute. 7 photos |

Kidgets 6.7.11 Grabbed a couple quick shots before they were off to day camp and then in the evening I wanted to see how this weird forest-fire sunset looked for portraits. 4 photos |
Uh... spring? It's been a weird spring; dust storms, smokey nights from forest fires 300 miles away, barren trees that bloom and blossom practically overnight. Whatever else you might say about this region's weather and climate, there's always something interesting going on. 6 photos |

painted lady butterflies 05.2011 Almost 3 weeks ago, our Painted Lady caterpillars arrived at Chez Muller. (Cheez?) They ate, grew, and formed chrysalids. The first one hatched 2 days ago; we kept it overnight and after it had eaten and looked strong, we released it. 2 more hatched today, and we have 2 to go for a total of 5. Each chrysalis has little golden metallic nodes on it, and shortly after each butterfly is born, they release an alarming red fluid, meconium, it contains the remnant colors and fluids of their transformation, but the FAQs assure us it's not blood. (It would be both unsurprising and appropriate if it were.) Hard to photograph the little buggers in their mesh cage, but they're great, everyone in the house finds them inspiring. BREAKING NEWS: As of this morning, the rest of them hatched. Three of them were pretty sugared up and ready to go, so we took them out and set them free. Now there's just one left, it was the smallest and we're letting it get a little strength before we set it loose into the dustbowl we live in. 7 photos |

Pentax Super Takumar 55 F/2 tests Got another old manual lens today and it's really fun. These old lenses are generally so cheap that it's nuts not to experiment with them, and they're either so bad that they're interesting, or they're so good that they're interesting. This old Takumar is not bad at all. It's definitely got a character, but it's subtle, not like "TERRIBLE COLOR" or "SOFT EVERYTHING." It's staying on the camera for a while. Hard to focus manually with no viewfinder but I'm getting it together. 19 photos |

Things That Are Heard - rehearsal 05/11 Santa Fe based Things That Are Heard at a rehearsal for their gig on May 20, 2011 at the Santa Fe Performance Exchange. Dave Wayne, drums; Christian Pincock, trombone; Paul Bossert, trombone; Ross Hamlin, guitar; Andy Gabrys, guitar; Justin Bransford, electric bass. Photos by Robert Muller. 18 photos |

new M39 lens quick tests Just got my first used Russian lens, it's an M39 mount 35 F2.8 and easily adaptable to my M4/3 Olympus. It came with a macro tube, so now I have macro capabilities on the Olympus. It's all manual, so focusing without a viewfinder can be challenging, but given enough light I'm pretty happy so far. I'm not sure how much character it adds yet, but it's fun to work with. 6 photos |
Do Tell [Dan Clucas, Mark Weaver, Dave Wayne] - 05.11.2011 A couple action shots from friends' gig on Wednesday at the O'Shaunessy Space at the College Formerly Known As The College of Santa Fe. (CFKATCOSF) 7 photos |

frosty again It was about 14 when I left to walk Sydney to school today, definitely warmer by the time I got back but plenty of frost left in shady areas. (The high desert sun is intense enough that it melts frost and snow even when it's only 20-something out.) This is mostly still frost, but it did snow a little yesterday so there's probably a bit of that mixed in too. 9 photos |

photos from Android I'm trying out some of the Hipstamatic type apps on Android. It's a better use for my phone camera than "real" pics, the camera's not great, but if you make it intentionally not-great, it's better. For some reason. 20 photos |

Las Vegas, NM early October 2010 Had a quiet afternoon a couple weeks ago and just headed east for a couple of hours. Las Vegas was a pretty wild town back in the day, the most dangerous place in the country during certain periods. Pretty sleepy on Sundays these days... 16 photos |
Nature Walk, October 2010 Got to take Sydney out for a "nature walk" to gather fall leaves and such for a class project, and her friend Tyra tagged along. This is about a 10 minute drive from our house in a place I've heard called "Grasshopper Canyon" and "Deer Creek," but it's not on maps and has no sign at the trailhead. 25 photos |

Turquoise Trail and Tinkertown 0710 I took Sydney and my sister in law who's visiting from Denmark on a nice little tour yesterday. 27 photos |
El Rancho De Las Golondrinas 07/17/10 Took my daughter, wife, and sister-in-law to Golondrinas yesterday for Viva Mexico. It was a little quieter than some events there, less vendors and stuff, but plenty of people and some nice stuff going on as well as plenty of space to just walk around and look. It's beautiful out there, and I always feel like I see something new. (Even if the photos look exactly the same after each trip. Heh.) 32 photos |

Coronado State Monument 07/10 Took my sister in law to Coronado State Monument yesterday on a whim, it was rainy in Santa Fe. It was very cool, I like the monument at Pecos better but the location right next to the Rio Grande was very cool. Lots of big, strange plants (with signs in front, thankfully) and little lizards. The storm from Santa Fe made it down to us and was hovering around Sandia peak, very dramatic. Sure felt like somewhere else... 10 photos |

the saddle; first attempts 080410 I was asked if I would provide a photo or two for an art auction that's benefitting horses through Animal Protection of New Mexico. I don't have much horse-related imagery, so I'm seeing if I can come up with something. My friend Krista was kind enough to loan me this cool old saddle, and I'm seeing if I can figure out how to get something interesting out of it. It's kind of tricky to figure out how much of it you need to show and still have it read as a saddle, and it's interesting to try to fit it into a picture-shaped box. And even when it reads like a saddle and not the Loch Ness Monster, it still needs to look 'right,' like it doesn't feel right when it's too close to the ground or something. I'm still thinking about it. Here's my first group of attempts, I'm not sure how I feel about them yet, but it's a good challenge... 11 photos |

Some horses 08.07.10 My friend Krista was kind enough to bring me along on her weekend job helping out with some horses, and I jumped on the opportunity. The couple that run the ranch also have alpacas, that'll be another trip. Beautiful, gentle animals, just wanted to share a few of the pics I liked. 27 photos |
saddle 2 080510 This is my second night trying to get an interesting shot of this saddle that our friend Krista was kind enough to loan to me. Between the weather cooperating and me having a better idea what I want, I feel like I'm getting somewhere. In case you noticed, I keep shooting the saddle from the same side because the other side was damaged at one point in its life, so some of the leather isn't embossed and has a different color. I might try it anyway, but since I really only need one good shot, I'm not being particularly forceful about making sure I capture both sides. (If you missed the back story, I'm trying to prepare a photo or two to donate to a nonprofit for an auction at the end of the month, there's a horse theme and I don't have anything ideal.) 8 photos |

Tsankawi Ruins 0710 Took my daughter and a couple of visitors to the Tsankawi Ruins portion of Bandelier National Monument this afternoon. Big views, and narrow trails worn into the rock by the Anasazi as far back as the 1400s. I definitely look forward to going back again and spending more time poking around the ruins portion of the loop. 17 photos |
after a summer monsoon We had the first big monsoon of the season late this afternoon, at least an inch of rain and tons of lightening. 6 photos |
El Santuario de Chimayo This is a small sanctuary in Chimayo, New Mexico near the beginning of the Santa Fe end of the High Road to Taos. There's a chamber adjoining the actual church that has a pit from which visitors may remove a small quantity of dirt that is reputed to have miraculous healing qualities. (That room is packed with crutches, walkers, casts, baby shoes, and one corner has photos of local soldiers.) During Holy Week, it's quite popular among pilgrims. The masses, if you should happen to witness one, are most obviously a combination of Mexican, Native American, and American influences, but if I were wiser, I'm sure I'd spot at least a touch of Spanish influence as well. The landscape before you get to Chimayo is stark, composed of light rocks, scrubby ground cover, and white sand arroyos. The Santuario itself is nestled next to a creek and is very green and pastoral; cows can be seen grazing across the creek. 4 photos |
Cholla flowers This time of year, the cholla cactii (people in some places call them jumping cactus) in my area bloom. Their flowers are bright pink or magenta, and they're pretty dramatic. But they tend to get pretty ragged pretty quickly - they remain beautiful, but they don't always make for beautiful photos. I'm figuring out that one of my favorite views of them is when they've just opened. The monsoons seem to have started and after one stops I try to run outside to grab a couple of photos while some of the flowers still have rain on them. The smallest flowers don't really stay damp long, but I'm finally getting some nice photos of some of the larger ones. 2 photos |
Random kid shots, May 2010 Just some random shots of my kid over the last couple of months. 9 photos |
Tinkertown, May 9 2010 An odd little museum in the Route 66 tradition, kitschy and American in the most optimistic and individual sense. The founder assembled it himself over a stretch 40 years (he passed in 2005 or so), collecting and building and carving and animating everything in the place. The animated displays with his hand-carved dolls are amazing, and the shamelessly diverse memorabilia scattered across every wall and rafter verges on the epic. One of his quotes was - forgive me if I paraphrase incorrectly - "I did this while you were watching television." Strangely inspiring, and worth a return trip. The website is a little out of date, but still pertinent: http://www.tinkertown.com/ 20 photos |
Sandia Peak, May 9 2010 Gave Anette a quiet house to study in and went for a long trip to Sandia Crest, one of the highest peaks in the area. It's the backdrop to Albuquerque and about 60 miles from our house. (It's very easy to see it from our neighborhood, although at our house the view is blocked by trees.) We were at 10,600+ feet, and even though we're already used to 7,000 or so feet of elevation from where we live, we definitely could feel the height. Even though it was in the 70s down where we lived, it was cool and very windy and there was still snow on the ground. We hiked to the old Kiwanis cabin and turned around to picnic on the leeward side of Sandia Peak before heading back. It was a good workout for my new very-wide zoom lens, which I love more and more. 16 photos |
Eldorado Preserve, May 8 2010 Took Sydney hiking yesterday, just her and me. It was a nice day and a pretty short trail, we took our time and looked at bugs and little pink rocks. She wanted to wear a skirt hiking, and she wore bells around her ankles that they'd given the kids at the Spring Fair on Friday. 12 photos |
Eldorado 0410 Took Sydney and a friend hiking on Sunday, this is just 10 miles from our house. Give or take. Spring has sprung, another nice afternoon. The trail we took has a lot of variety even though it's not very long. There are still a lot of dead trees, presumably from the blight of beetles they had before I moved here, it makes for a surreal landscape; red or white dirt, very blue sky, green trees, black stumps. (Throw in some wildflowers later in the year, and it's a lot to take in. In a good way.) 11 photos |
Cerrillos Hills Historic Park 0410 Took my kid and a friend hiking again, the Cerrillos Hills Historic Park is an area on the Turquoise Trail that was part of a thriving mining community a hundred years and change back. Little high desert foothills, expansive views, some early wildflower activity, and little glimpses at mines. (We got to throw rocks into an old manganese mine and a couple for lead and copper.) On the way out of town we went into Cerrillos, a living ghost town. The movie Young Guns was filmed there, and they didn't have to do much besides take down the street signs to make it authentic. (I'll walk around there just to photograph one day.) We stopped at the Trading Post and fed the animals. 25 photos |
Bandelier 0410 Took an unplanned trip to Bendelier again with a couple friends last weekend, it was a great day. I love visiting there, and I plan to explore more of the park this spring. (I usually just hit the tourist loop in Frijoles Canyon and head home, but now that Sydney's older we can try some other stuff like Tsankawi Ruins.) There are Anasazi ruins, cave dwellings, ceremonial kivas, ladders, hoodoos, white rock, red rock, and even "running water." It was just a tad early for any greenery and we didn't even see any of the cool little Abert's squirrels this time, but it's a special place. http://www.nps.gov/band/index.htm 24 photos |

Oooh - new macro / portrait lens... October, 2009 - Got a new 90mm portrait and macro lens, here are a couple quick out-of-the-box tests, literally the first 5 or so minutes I had it. I'm geeked to get using it. 7 photos |
Sunset 033010 I'm considering entering a simple photo competition that focuses on dusk and dawn photos. The deadline is tomorrow, 3/31/10. I'd secretly love to get a new lens or something, but mostly I'm just trying to find excuses to make myself try a couple new things. Some of these are pretty long exposures, 30 seconds and up, and thankfully at the last minute the wind let up some. Uploading to Facebook introduced some grain and noise that isn't in the "real" versions. I'm not worried about it but it's interesting to see. Anyway, at the last minute I figured I'd run to a spot I've wanted to photograph for a while and I'm pleased with how most of it came out. If you see this and have a favorite on 3/31, let me know, I haven't decided which, if any, to include... (I'll sleep on it, too. I've got a couple others to pick out, and it's not too late to chicken out.) 12 photos |

signs of spring Felt like taking a couple more pics while I was cooking dinner outside, just playing around. 12 photos |
hunting for petroglyphs 03/10 The photos aren't particularly special, but it was very cool to find so many petroglyphs together. 12 photos |
hdr experiments 0310 Starting to work on bracket exposures. I picked some pretty heavy-handed settings when I made these HDRs, but it looks like with a little practice, this could be a fun area to explore. (HDR photos involve taking more than one shot, ideally on a tripod, and then combining them later. I usually take 3; one one that's too-dark, one that's just-right, and one that's too-light, and then combine them with software so the picture is closer to what the human eye actually sees in a scene.) 7 photos |
Before and after the most recent last snow of the year Monday it was probably 55 and Anette took Sydney and her play date outside while she did stuff. There were buds on some of the plants and birds singing. Last night it snowed again, although not too much. We're due for a little more today again and maybe later in the week. Maybe spring soon, though; at least we'll probably have a real spring and not a fake one that kills all the fruit tree blossoms... 14 photos |
walking with dinosaurs Hadn't heard of the BBC's "Walking with Dinosaurs" tour, but some friends got good ticket prices and we went. It was pretty impressive. There wasn't supposed to be flash photography, but I don't think that stopped anyone but me. (I don't think my flash can light up a venue that can hold a monster truck rally anyway. And they also said no filming of any sort, and half the people were cell-phone filming the whole thing.) It was a good challenge with the low light and all, even got a couple decent shots. The kids had a great time. 17 photos |
March afternoon, 2010 Now that there's a little light after I'm finished working, it's nice to get out. Sydney came outside and drew a picture for me and the dogs ran around. Spring is almost here. Still. Again. 6 photos |
Fall Harvest Festival Rancho de las Golondrinas is very cool 300+ acre rancho from the early 1700s. (www.golondrinas.org) We only recently started going, you have to time your visit with a day they're open as it's all volunteer run and not open all the time. It was a beautiful fall afternoon, the trees are turning, the chamisa is bright yellow, apples on the trees.. They were pressing cider, stomping grapes, the kids got to make their own tortillas the old way, and there were horses all over the place. It's a special place. 54 photos |
Diablo Canyon Took Sydney hiking and picnicking today in a place called Diablo Canyon. It's north and west of Santa Fe, cool trip. People climbing rocks and hiking with dogs, and a train of real Jeep dudes entered the canyon right as we were leaving. Nice fall colors, beautiful autumn day. I'd never heard of it before today, but apparently it was in some scenes of 3:10 to Yuma. The canyon walls messed with my GPS so we never found the geocache we were looking for but geocaching remains a great way to stumble across stuff I'd never find otherwise. Once Sydney watched a young lady climbing a rock, she was up every boulder we came across. 24 photos |
Eldorado preserve, last weekend I took my kid and 2 other 5 year olds hiking last weekend. It was actually fun, and we've never made time around the trails like we did that day. It got pretty loud in the car. 5 photos |
First snow of the season, Fall 2009 It's a little early for snow; it's not too much, but still kind of surprising for mid-October. 3 photos |
High Road to Taos I've wanted to make this drive for a while and it was amazing. The pictures are not very impressive compared to what I saw, it was beautiful and maybe the best fall colors weekend. (On review, some of them weren't bad.) I'd love to make this drive every weekend this fall. For every photo I even attempted, there were 50 amazing places or things I missed. Highly recommended for my non-New Mexico friends. 16 photos |
McCall's Pumpkin Patch Took our second annual trip to the pumpkin patch, Anette got to come this time. Nice fall afternoon, I wish I'd stopped for more photos on the way down, but you know - you've gotta "make time." Usually I hog the camera, but Anette took a couple of pictures of me this time out. 15 photos |
Jack o' Lanterns 2009 2 photos |
Tarantula At the risk of skeeving any potential houseguests, here's a recent visitor. My daughter and I were geeked, my wife (who spotted it) less so, and Sydney's little friend didn't like "the frikkin' huge spider" much. I let it crawl on my hand, it was very light and soft. 5 photos |
Landscape design firm plant photos I'm doing some photography from time to time for some nice people who have started a permaculture landscape design business. They broke off from another company and don't have a big portfolio, so we're doing what we can to show off some of their stuff. I got some nice individual plants and flowers. 20 photos |
Leonora Curtin Wetlands Preserve 09/09 I took the Tiny Gangster to a not-well-known nature preserve south of town, it was very cool. Sort of like a miniature Sauvie Island interpreted southwest style; reeds and paths and stuff, but chamisa and prickly pear cactus sorts of stuff too. They'll close for the season very soon as it's run on a small budget by volunteers, and I hope the cottonwoods change before they do so I can get some nice fall shots... 17 photos |
Hummingbird vs. Mantis Hummingbirds like sugar. Sugar attracts flies. Flies attract mantids. In truth, there was no animosity in evidence. But I challenge you not to watch such a spectacle and grunt things to yourself like, "Ha! Your Northern Hummingbird Style is no match for my Mantis Fist!" 5 photos |

a couple scrub jays and some kind of ground squirrel At least I think they're scrub jays; someone told me the pinyon jays have less gray in front, but the pictures in books aren't always super clear. 4 photos |

bull snake 050409 We haven't seen many snakes at the house; this is the first we've seen this close. Bull Snakes can be over 6 feet long, this one's more like 3 1/2. They look enough like rattlesnakes that they can startle you, but they're not poisonous. (They shake their tails close to the ground to make noise in leaves and such, but it's a ploy.) 3 photos |
Tent Rocks 0409 Got the family out hiking last weekend, Tent Rocks is very cool. One of the nicest and springiest days we've had, not too hot. 25 photos |

La Bajada, March 15 2009 I forced the family to get out and do a little geocaching today. We were near a ghost town called La Bajada, and it was quite a climb. We saw some walls and stuff, but I don't think we ever saw the actual "city center" of the ghost town. I ran out of time and never found the cache, but I got within 2 feet. Beautiful afternoon... 14 photos |
Hiking with Sydney, March 14 2009 Took The Girl on a fairly challenging hike. The weather's been all over the place, but it was pleasant today, no snow like yesterday. I love hiking in this area, a lot of variety in a small space. 10 photos |
Pecos National Monument, February 09 Took my daughter and her friend to Pecos over the weekend. It's the site of an old Indian pueblo, most prominently featuring the church remains, that was taken violently over by Catholics a couple of times and violently retaken by the original residents until the locals eventually took off. It's beautiful. I'm trying to work out a better way of shooting outdoor shots in our weird light and I dug out my polarizer. I was a little heavy-handed, but I like the results so I'll keep working on it. 21 photos |

Holidays 2008 December 23rd, mostly. It snowed last night, and we've got 4 extra dogs for a couple days. The tree's up, Danish style, handmade decorations and candles and stuff. We're basically all set. 16 photos |
(Probably) the last warm weekend of the season Did a lot of playing outdoors this weekend, we had a dog guest and spent some time outside. I also took my daughter's friend and grandparents on a hike. The next morning the ground was dusted with snow, sure changes quick. 11 photos |

Pumpkin Patch Took my four year old daughter Sydney with a couple of her friends to the pumpkin patch in Moriarty, NM. A weekend in a Taos Earthship School's about to start, and we can't get away for a whole week or anything, so we rented an "Earthship" up in Taos. They're very cool, halfway underground, all solar, totally off the grid. The area northwest of Taos is extremely quiet, and we were lucky enough to see just about every kind of weather. 10 photos |
